Performing Arts

To foster their development as Renaissance women, ³ûÖÊÓƵ girls take part in a rich Performing Arts program that includes Drama, Music and Dance.

Music is studied as an academic subject from Kindergarten through to the Higher School Certificate (HSC) with options of Music 1, Music 2 and Music Extension classes.

Extra-curricular private Music tuition is available in piano, strings, woodwind, brass, drums and percussion, voice, musicianship and theory. Girls can sit the exams.

As part of their Music studies, Kindergarten to Year 2 students sing in their classroom setting and perform at School events such as Grandparent's Day and in their annual Woodstock Christmas Play. From Year 3, students learn a string instrument as part of their academic program. From Year 4, the Instrumental Music Program opens up to include band instruments.

Years 3 to 12 are encouraged to join one of our nearly two dozen musical groups, which include six choirs; an orchestra; string, wind, brass and flute ensembles; string quartet; a concert band and a rock band. They can also take part in School musicals, which alternate between Junior and Senior productions each year.

Academic Drama is studied as part of the English syllabus through to Year 9, from which point it can be taken as an elective through to HSC Drama. Students are encouraged to see theatre productions, and in Years 10 and 11 receive a subscription to a mainstage Sydney theatre company. Extra-curricular Speech and Drama classes are offered and girls can sit exams.

Dance is offered as an academic subject from Year 9 onwards and also as an extra-curricular offering, with a comprehensive program for Kindergarten to Year 12 taught on campus. As for all Performing Arts activities, there are performance and competition opportunities, including the annual Dance Concert and Academic Dance Showcase.
