2017 Term 4

  • A Chinese Fairytale - Mandarin has a reputation as one of the hardest languages to learn, but students from Mr Mikklesen’s Year 10 Chinese class made it look effortless this week, with their entertaining adaptation of Little Red Riding Hood.
  • A Present for the Future - As work on the new STEM Centre and Sporting Facility continues apace, our Kindergarten and Year 2 students have been busy creating time capsules; a magical way of taking a slice of their present life at ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ and preserving it for the future.
  • A Spectacular STEM Showcase - This week Years 5 and 6 had a chance to demonstrate their critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to teachers, peers and parents as part of their Spectacular STEM Showcase.

  • A Whole New Ball Game - “Creative’, ‘inspiring’, ‘exciting’ and ‘fantastic’ were just some of the words our Year 5 girls used to describe their latest STEM challenge.

  • Biv, rat packs and hutchies - ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ Cadets may have been a bit anxious as to what to expect from their first time on a Cadet Bivouac, but this was quickly dispelled when they arrived at Singleton Army range during the last week of Term 3 and were taken off to their respective Coy (company).
  • Camaraderie at its best: Interhouse Netball Competition - House identity and spirit is very strong at ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ, and this was highlighted at our Interhouse Netball Competition this week.
  • Celebrating Sport - Sport is an important part of life at ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ. This week, we celebrated the diversity of sporting achievements, passions and interests across the School.
  • Celebrating World Teachers’ Day 2017 - Today at ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ, we celebrated World Teachers’ Day, recognising our talented and dedicated staff for the significant contribution they make both in and out of the classroom.
  • Child Psychology in action - ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ’s Year 9 Psychology class are currently studying Child Psychology, and in particular the theories of Jean Piaget.

  • Handy hydraulics - Lucy Row, Year 4, has recently been awarded 1st prize (judged) and the Crowd Favourite Prize for the Intermediate Category of the Robogals Science Challenge 2017.
  • Hats off to Akubra - The Akubra has been an icon of the Australian outback since the 1870s, so our Year 11 Business Studies students were thrilled to travel to Akubra’s manufacturing plant in Kempsey last week to learn first-hand about the operation management side of this 100% Australian-owned business.
  • Junior School Music Awards - What a wonderful evening of performances from the 12 finalists in our Junior School Music Awards, as well as Petite Voices and last year's co-winners, Georgia Taplin and Lauren Porter.

  • Speed-dating Alumnae - This week our Year 9 students took part in a ‘speed-dating’ style career workshop with recent ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ alumnae as part of the Year 9 Careers Day ‘Anticipating the Skills of the Future’.
  • STEM Students at Sea - While Elon Musk’s Tesla is working on the technology for its electric cars, our Year 9 STEM students have spent the past two terms developing the technology for their very own remotely operated vehicles (ROV’s).
  • The World of Work - This week, Year 10 students participated in 128 individual work experience placements across New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria, including architecture firms, financial services, hospitals, design studios and fashion houses.
  • ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ Boarders get out and about - ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ boarders took advantage of Sydney’s Good Food Month to visit the Night Noodle Markets in Hyde Park last Saturday.
  • ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ Remembers - This week ³ûÖ­ÊÓƵ marked the 99th anniversary of the Armistice that ended the First World War (1914-18), honouring all those affected by war.
  • Year 9 Service Learning Tours - 87 girls from Year 9 spent time during the last school holidays on Service Learning tours, where they immersed themselves in hard work as well as local culture.
