Achieving in History

³ûÖÊÓƵ students from Years 7 to 10 have accrued a plethora of impressive results in the Australian History Competition.

This national contest is a rigorous test of student skills and knowledge, designed to encourage a passion for the study of history. The brain-twisting questions covered topics such as Medieval Europe, the Vikings, European rulers and ancient Egypt.

“With one High Distinction and seven Distinctions, our results were fabulous”, said History and Gifted and Talented teacher Mr Ben Rigg. “But they are incidental to the students’ willingness to take calculated risks and accept a challenge”.

Year 8 student Erica who achieved a High Distinction, is such a keen history buff that she says time sometimes disappears when she is focused on a History assignment. “It’s the events of the past that have led to what is taking place today, so studying it is a way to understand why the world is the way it is, and learn from the mistakes that have gone before”.
